Nicolai Grigorișin won by a landslide against a total absenteeism from the polls
Independent candidate Nicolai Grigorishin won detached Sunday’s local elections for mayor in Balti, second houret ca mfrom the Republic of Moldova, with a score of 84.77% in front of his opponent Nicolae Chirilciuc, representative of the “Patriots of Moldova” party, the one who accumulated 15.23% of the votes.
Earlier, the Central Electoral Commission excluded the candidate of the Șor Party, Mariana Tauber, on charges of fraud and violation of the electoral legislation regarding the financing within the limits of the law of her electoral campaign. She was eliminated from the race, after winning by 48% the first round of these elections for Balti City Hall.
Grigorishin was a close associate of the former mayor of Balti, Renato Usatii, but with whom he allegedly quarreled in recent months.
The turnout was extremely low, only 9.98%, more precisely 10,209 citizens. For Grigorishin, 7,148 people voted, and for Chirilciuc only 1,248 citizens.
The electoral code of the Republic of Moldova stipulates that, in the second round of voting, the candidate who needs the highest number of votes is elected, regardless of the number of voters who participated in the elections or electoral threshold.
In the case of votes, it seems that the candidate who needs the highest number of votes in the first round has been elected.
