Olivier Marchal: “I will cry when I leave Toulouse”
Director Olivier Marchal has just finished shooting in Toulouse. Exclusive interview.
Installed with his team for a few days in the city center, the director Olivier Marchal shoots his new film “Overdose” in Toulouse before moving to the Paris region and Spain.
How is the filming that you have been leading for a few days in downtown Toulouse going?
We filmed on the site of the old Cordeliers, rue des Lois, where we have strangely installed the premises of the PJ of Perpignan since we are forced to centralize the sets for economic needs. It is a sublime and original place that offers the public new things, new atmospheres. I liked the series “Gotham” on Netflix in which we saw these cops who were in an old chapel, so we found it interesting to film them in this beautiful setting and that we haven’t seen too much yet.
You are currently shooting the more intimate scenes of the film …
Yes, there we arose a little from where the relaxation, and the fatigue which begins to be felt, the shooting is enough. But we were very well received by the master Jacques Lévy, a charming gentleman who received us very elegantly, to shoot the scenes supposed to take place in the premises of the PJ of Toulouse with an actor who plays a crooked lawyer or anti-cop in the movie. The confusion may have been made during our previous interview so it’s important to rectify, Maître Lévy has nothing to do with the story of the film, except that he kindly opened his doors to us as well. than all the people in the building where we shoot. And we shot scenes with Sofia Essaïdi, Kool Shen, Assaâd Bouab and Simon Abkarian who plays the boss of the PJ of Toulouse.
Where are you going to shoot after the Toulouse streak?
We are soon attacking Aubervilliers so it’s not the same sauce as Toulouse! Plus they’re big night action scenes so it’s going to be pretty tough. Then we go to Seville in Spain after the holidays. We had to return scenes parasitized by bad weather near Carcassonne but the bad weather then took over the exteriors in Paris, we have to, but the joint will be made with the images taken in the region.
What memories will you keep of this shoot in Toulouse?
I was fine in Toulouse and I will cry when I leave because afterwards we will end up in Paris, which is hell! So we are really happy to come and shoot in the provinces and, above all, in this superb city.
When is the film scheduled to air on Amazon Prime?
In September-October and it’s a big challenge! Amazon wants the broadcaster in 240 countries so it’s a pretty huge deal, with a big budget so you have to get it right.
