LOANED: Gotham FC’s Viens will play for Sweden through the NWSL season
HARRISON, NJ – NJ / NY Gotham FC announced on Thursday that forward Evelyne Viens has been loaned out to Kristianstads DFF, which competes in Sweden’s highest division for women, Damallsvenskan.
The loan will extend during the 2022 season of the National Women’s Soccer League.
“We are delighted that Evelyne will play in a competitive environment where she can continue to grow as a player,” Gotham FC general manager Yael Averbuch West said in a statement. “This is a fantastic opportunity for her to earn good playing minutes. We wish her luck in Sweden and look forward to following her progress.”
Viens, 24, was selected as the fifth overall in the 2020 NWSL Draft after an outstanding career at the University of South Florida where she became the highest goal scorer in school history. She made her Gotham FC debut in the Challenge Cup 2020 and was loaned out to Paris FC in Division 1 Feminine in France, scoring 11 goals in 14 matches.
During the 2021 NWSL regular season, Vienna made 13 appearances and collected three assists. She scored the match-winning goal in the dying minutes of the match against the North Carolina Courage in the Challenge Cup 2021 that kept Gotham FC at the top of the East Division table.
The year of the Canadian international was highlighted by her debut at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. She came in as a substitute in two matches on her way to Canada’s first Olympic gold.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to play abroad and continue to develop,” said Viens. “I look forward to being back on the field.”
