AS Monaco and Zvezdan Mitrovic separate!
Five straight EuroLeague defeats got the better of Zvezdan Mitrovic’s contract with AS Monaco. The Montenegrin technician, who became coach of the Roca Team again in the summer of 2020 after a first successful experience on site between 2015 and 2019 and a stint at ASVEL, separated from the principality’s club by mutual agreement.
Promoted to the EuroLeague after their EuroCup title at the beginning of May 2020, AS Monaco has assembled a team with the objective of reaching the playoffs in order to remain at this level. However, the latest results of the Roca Team (five consecutive defeats in EuroLeague) caused them to fall behind in the race for the top 8. The many points collected during the matches (99 points in Strasbourg on Sunday), when they are not the offensive difficulties (44 points scored after three quarters against Milan last Friday), did not help. His relationship with some players, including Mike James who decided to return to the locker room at the start of the match against Milan because he did not consider himself ready to replay a week after having been the victim of a sprained ankle, were not not looking good. The management of the club therefore took this painful decision, recalling however that “the name of Zvezdan Mitrovic is etched forever in the history of AS Monaco Basket.”
Sasa Obradovic back?
To replace him, the name of Sasa Obradovic returns in all mouths to designate his successor. The Serbian technician had signed for AS Monaco in February 2019. He reached the playoff final a few months later against Zvezdan Mitrovic’s ASVEL. But in the 2020 offseason, the Red Star of Belgrade had seduced Sasa Obradovic. The latter was then replaced in Monaco by … Zvezdan Mitrovic. Sacked by the Red Star in Belgrade at the end of 2020, Sasa Obradovic has been free for a year.
Thank you, !
AS Monaco and Zvezdan have, by mutual agreement, decided to end their cooperation.
His name is forever inscribed in the history of AS Monaco Basket.
