“The characteristic of this 5th epidemic wave is the lack of human resources”
A week of white plan in Vaucluse hospitals. A necessary measure in the midst of the 5th wave of Covid -19 according to Jean-Noël Jacques, the director of the Avignon hospital. Just before the weekend, 8 patients were in intensive care. The common denominator? They are not vaccinated.
“Making the care pathways more fluid to avoid saturation”
In total, more than 60 people are being treated for symptoms of the coronavirus. For the moment 45 beds are dedicated only to the care of Covid, but this number may increase if contaminations and serious explosive cases.
We are starting to deprogram non-emergency procedures to relieve exhausted caregivers. “The characteristic of this 5th epidemic wave is the _lack of human resources_“, underlines Jean-Noël Jacques. Human resources management is carried out on a just-in-time basis, absenteeism is high and can be explained by the accumulated fatigue of health professionals.
So to counter the saturation of hospital beds especially during this holiday season, Jean-Noël Jacques insists on collective work. “It is necessary that all the actors of health, public, private, liberal get organized to make the course of care more fluid”, explains the head of the Avignon hospital.
