MAX CHAMPION | You can’t ignore it today: Max Verstappen is the first Dutchman ever to win Formula 1. After a bad start, he lost a chance in Abu Dhabi in a direct duel with rival Lewis Hamilton, but everything changed in the last lap. He overtook the Brit at the last minute and won the race and with it the championship. Mercedes – Hamilton’s team – did not give up and signed two protests, but they were accepted later in the evening. Max is definitely champion!
GELDERSE FANS FROM THEIR ROOFS IN ABU DHABI | When the two couples booked the trip to Abu Dhabi in September, they did not know that the Formula 1 World Championship was still to be fought at that time. And certainly not that it would be such a blistering finale. “Indescribable”, says René Jansen. ,,This is Dutch sports history and we were there on 12-12-21, a date that will never leave my memory.” Jansen from Heilig Landstichting met his partner Sandra Blom and their friends Boudewijn van der Valk and Natascha Donkers from Druten traveled to the United Arab Emirates to experience the Formula 1 spectacle. ,,Two laps before the finish I wrote to someone that only a safety car could save Max”, says Jansen. “That’s exactly what happened.”
EVENING LOCKDOWN EXTENDED | The evening lockdown will be extended for at least another three weeks. That includes catering, gyms and non-essential stores to close at 5 p.m. during the scheduled holidays. That is the outcome of the Catshuisberaad policy, where the most important ministers associated with the corona come together. According to the high number of infections, easing does not allow for relaxation. The current corona measures will expire next weekend, but it has been agreed that they will in any case be extended until the weekend of 8. The average number of infections per day is still steadily increasing: over 16,000 new corona cases have been added in the past hour.
FAMILY FAR OVER NUDE PHOTOS | Sending nude photos last night led to a stabbing incident in Weerselo (Twente). A young woman suffered minor injuries. Her brother is. The two got into an argument when he sent them nude photos of himself with her cell phone. According to the family, the fight got completely out of hand. The brother was also angry with her for not wearing a headscarf. The family says the sale is going well.

According to the meteorologists, the chance of snow just before Christmas increases a bit. Temperatures will rise from next Friday and light frost and snow will take a chance. Yet the meteorologists are not too positive about a white Christmas: the chance is reached at about 7 percent. But there is a chance!
VITESSE WIN THANKS TO OPENDA | Lois Openda is the man in shape at Vitesse. On the basis of the Belgian, the Arnhem club has climbed to place four in the Eredivisie. The mercenary put the Gelderland formation on the right track today by scoring twice against Heracles Almelo. as a result, Vitesse won – after falling behind – 2-1. At the moment, NEC is still playing against PSV, which can become the leader with a win due to Ajax’s loss against AZ. But the people of Nijmegen are surprisingly 1-0 ahead in the Goffert at half time.
