Acqua & Sapone Roma got off to a good start, but broke up and gave way to Busto Arsizio
Rome starts strong, but Busto Arsizio is a solid challenge valid for the eleventh day of the championship, fielding a concrete test and three precious points with which to find other great ones (3-0 25-22; 25-17; 25- 23). The hosts suffered the initial acceleration of Acqua & Sapone, and then mended the tear thanks to the great proof of character of Ungureanu, MVP of the match with 11 points on the scoresheet. For Rome, which after the first set loosened its grip in the second, struggling to find the right balance in the third (Klimets ‘performance with his 17 points was not enough), it was still an important opportunity to compete with a’ level opponent and prepare for the salvation match on Sunday 19 December against Trento.
1 st SET Coach Musso deploys Poulter and Mingardi in the main diagonal, Bosetti and Gray in the band, Stefanovic and Olivotto in the center, Zannoni is free. Saja responds with the starting sextet formed by Bugg in the control room opposite Klimets, Stigrot and Pamio the crushers, Trnkova and Cecconello the central ones, Venturi is free
Rome immediately starts strong: Bugg’s ace on 7-9 forces coach Musso to immediately stop the game. The two teams return to the field, but it is still the Capitoline team that dictates its own pace (7-11). Stefanovic and his teammates do not give up as they recalibrate the score and with Poulter from nine meters they sign first the hang up and then the overtaking, extending up to +3 (16-13). Busto thus changes the inertia of the match and the Wolves find it hard to find the rhythm with which they started at the start of the fraction. With the two attacks by Klimets from the second line, Rome proves to be able to compete for the set and sets off in pursuit (19-18). At that point the two teams face each other with no holds barred until Gray’s mani-out and Poulter’s block put an extra gear on the Farfalle, who with a final acceleration fly to the first set (25-22) .
2nd SET Ungureanu remains on the field on Bosetti and Busto immediately takes an important advantage (6-2), forcing coach Saja to stop everything. Rome seeks solutions to repeat the performance of the previous fraction and finds tracts in Trnkova lucid in the reading on the wall and Stigrot insightful from the band: however, it is not easy for the capitoline to contain the great performances of Olivotto and Mingardi, the Lombardy ones take off with ease (18-10). The hammering attacks of Klimets and Papa are not enough to penetrate the defense set up by Zannoni, which allows the home team to take the second set (25-17).
3 ° SET In the third fraction, the balance is the protagonist since the first actions (8-8; 11-11) with Pamio to restore morale to all the Giallorossi from the first and second lines (12-13). Busto’s recovery comes under the net with Poulter who changes the trajectories of distribution and finds in his power plants the solution to score and slow down the pursuit of the Wolves. Ungureanu sinks the shot from four and then with the wall on Trnkova goes on 23-21. The fast at the center of Cecconello is not enough to prevent Busto from reaching the final set (23-25) first and winning the match and 3 points to confirm fourth place in the provisional standings (23 points).
Alice Pamio, spiker of the Acqua & Sapone Roma Volley Club:
“Today we only played at our level in the first set. Then we started contracted, fearful and we were unable to bring what we demonstrated against Scandicci onto the pitch. There is a lot of work to be done, even on the defense wall which was not the best. We know we have played against one of the most prepared teams of the season and we will certainly be able to do so much more. Our level is growing game by game, but that’s not enough. Especially when you go to play on difficult fields like Busto’s. “
