Budapest Ritmo: Liraz, Amadou & Mariam, António Zambujo is also coming
Budapest Ritmót at three locations, the Aquarium Club, the Simple Garden and the Toldi Cinema as part of the Bartók Spring International Art Weeks. Next year, the audience will have a showcase day, concerts, conference and networking programs, and a film section, the organizers told MTI.
Israeli Liraz brings music from Persian roots to Budapest: the young (talented as an actress) star of world music is known for her melodies and special stage presence based on modern yet ancient Middle Eastern traditions.
Amadou & Mariam have been composing and playing music together for 35 years, playing alongside U2 and Coldplay and producing their records Manu Chao. They evoke the characteristic musical cavalcade of Bamako, the capital of Mali.
António Zambujo is the greatest male singer in the Portuguese fado today. Known for his honeyed voice, the artist grew up under the spell of the Brazilian bossa nova and cante alentejano, the song treasure of southern Portugal. He rarely performs on the stage of Budapest Ritmo.
The elegant music of the fusion jazz Boi Akihi is complete with the flute playing of the Hungarian Little Dodo, his Indonesian, Dutch and Guinean counterparts. The music and lyrics of the quartet are composed of the sounds of the Indian Ocean, the blending of Dutch jazz and the African harp of the early days.
In addition to the showcase day and the conference, the program will be expanded with special film programs, continuing the successful film-music collaborations within the framework of the 2021 online Budapest Ritmo.
Following the example of previous years, Budapest Ritmo offers introductory opportunities for emerging bands. The free showcase day will be at the Simple Garden on April 7, 2022, when six bands selected by an international jury will perform. Bands can apply for the showcase competition until January 14th.
