Toulouse. Kindness at the last municipal council of the year
Discussions were heated during the Toulouse city council, this Friday, December 10. It was the first for the two new opposition groups born from the split of Archipel Citoyen.
Toulouse city councils are far from being moments of relaxation. For several terms, the atmosphere has been tense, frequent spat and virulent comments. The deliberation session of elected Toulouse officials this Friday, December 10 is no exception to the rule. Especially since it is the last municipal council of the year. And that two new opposition groups are appearing there: Alternative municipalist citizen (AMC) and Toulouse environmentalist, united and citizen (Tesc), born from the split of Archipel Citoyen. Everyone devotes their introductions to presenting themselves, reaffirming their values and relaunching their struggles, wording.
Friendship jars and kings cakes
“AMC is a group that offers a model of a city in which everyone has their place, not just your friends and generous donors, Mr. Moudenc”, immediately attacked Agathe Roby, co-president of the new formation. The chosen one refers to an article in Médiacités published this Monday, December 6, revealing that the mayor of Toulouse would have collected a record amount of more than 300,000 euros in donations during his last municipal campaign. “You are repeating the words of a media that claims to be independent when in reality it is partisan. Are you implying that there would be feedback from us to our donors? They are invited to Friendship Jars, Kings Galettes and nothing more. Anything else is untrue, ”answers Pierre Esplugas-Labatut straightforwardly for the majority.
Extreme right and fundamentalists
For Tesc, Michèle Bleuze also has some complaints to address to the mayor of Toulouse. She accuses him of “having made allegiance to Mr Macron”, of having “reaffirmed his values of an extreme right” by his support for Valérie Pécresse, of being “a mayor who divides and stigmatizes”. “This year 2021 ends hard for the greatest number, and you have a share of responsibility”, launches the elected opposition to Jean-Luc Moudenc. While Maxime Le Texier, another AMC co-president, denounces “the brutality and contempt” of the city council with regard to the Archipel Citoyen approach: “You qualify us in the press as ” fundamentalists ”. Fundamentalists, do you realize what you’re saying? “. The person does not answer.
“Hey oh! We are a municipal team of 53 elected officials! “
It is Pierre Esplugas-Labatut who finally speaks for the majority, “without really knowing where to start”. “I admit that I am flabbergasted by the violence of the words of all the speakers with regard to Jean-Luc Moudenc. Hey oh! We are a municipal team of 53 elected officials! Here we are, hey oh! Of course, Jean-Luc Moudenc is the boss of this team, but stop talking only to him. It is an insult to the collective work that is ours and that you are calling for ”. Sacha Briand, in charge of the finances of the Pink City, believes for his part “not to have heard a single concrete proposal from the opposition”. “You are unable to agree. Moreover, there is no longer a Citizen Archipelago, it is today just an archipelago. “
Logic wants such exchanges of courtesies to still take place at the Capitol in 2022.
