Sweden donates $ 5.7 million to UNRWA for Gaza’s reconstruction – Middle East Monitor
Sweden has donated $ 5.7 million as part of a financing agreement with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Israel) to support the reconstruction of the besieged Gaza Strip following the 11-day Israeli offensive against Gaza in May.
The Israeli air and artillery attacks during the 11-day attack in May, which killed 253 Palestinians, including 66 children, were marked by its intensity, targeting civilian homes and infrastructure.
According to Wafa The news agency, funded by Gaza’s early recovery program, aims to restore access to key services, including decent livelihoods for Palestinians in Gaza, and secure housing and living conditions for internally displaced persons and vulnerable households who are not refugees and refugees.
Funding will also focus on contributing to waste management, Temporary Shelter Cash Assistance (TSCA) and short-term livelihood restoration jobs.

UNRWA Director-General Thomas White said: “Supporting the livelihoods and recovery of affected people would prevent them from falling into poverty and multidimensional deprivation, while reducing dependence on the TSCA.”
UNRWA was created in 1949 to provide assistance and protection to the Palestinian refugees who were forced to leave their homes to make way for the creation of the state of Israel.
The organization currently offers its services to some 5.3 million Palestinian refugees in the Occupied Territories, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
