Truck drivers spoiled in New Amsterdam: ‘It belongs to them’
In a trailer, three knucklebones are dancing and baking while enjoying various Christmas tunes. The ball, frikandel and hamburger sandwiches are prepared there. Organizer Mieke Prins is amazed at the turnout: “It is already starting to drive nicely. I hope for a great turnout.”
Truck Driver’s Day is a national initiative. They are now hooking up for the second time in New Amsterdam. “It is already worth repeating”, says a satisfied Prince when the first sandwiches have been handed out.
‘From the heart’
All those hard-working drivers have such a day, Prins believes. “It’s time to put them in the spotlight. A lot of people don’t realize that the road is actually coming on. It’s best to pay more attention to that,” says the organizer.
The promotion is appreciated by the first truck drivers who have found the truck stop and the ‘snack trailer’: “Great appreciation and nice to be put in the spotlight.”

Singing Truck Driver
Asfaltrocker Henk Wijngaard is also visiting New Amsterdam to make a statement. “Without a farmer, no food. Without transport, nothing on your plate,” he explains.
The singing truck driver is enthusiastic about the action on Hartman’s site: “Great! You really have to respect what those drivers do. They transport everything. From these meatballs to your new shoes.”
The singer himself goes for a ball of mayo, but the burgers and dumplings are also popular. In various palaces on wheels, there is a lot of fun nibbling this afternoon. “We have 150 snacks in total. If we don’t have enough, we just get extra,” concludes Prins.
