Toulouse sets up a gigantic platform dedicated to local delivery
19,500 m2 dedicated to urban logistics in Toulouse. This is the impressive platform of the pink city that will ensure daily so-called “last mile” deliveries, inaugurated today. Hybrid and electric vehicles, always with an environmental concern, will leave this area in order to deliver the inhabitants and traders who come to the city center.
Second logistics platform in France
“It is the largest platform of this type, designated for last mile logistics, carried out to date in France, outside the Paris region”, underlines François Cantinaud in a press release, president of TLU (Toulouse Urban Logistics), the company in charge of operating the platform.
Toulouse Fondeyre thus ranks second among logistics platforms in France. Its objective is to offer professionals in the delivery of infrastructures and shared services to promote cost breaks in favor of vehicles that are lighter and more virtuous in terms of environmental impact.
In the next two to three years, around twenty heavy goods vehicles will have to unload their loads there every day, while fleets of light vehicles will take care of the flows, whether they are packages or food products. Over 300 people must work daily on the site, of which 70% are drivers.
Decarbonize delivery areas
“Every week, across our Metropolis, deliverers and carriers travel over 2 million kilometers and park 12,000 hours in double file in the hyper-center of Toulouse “underlines in a press release the President of Toulouse Métropole, Jean-Luc Moudenc.
Toulouse Urban Logistics will then become a pioneering tool for decarbonize delivery areas, better share the public space and therefore move more easily. “The platform is part of our desire to make Toulouse a greener city, more breathable and more mobile“welcomes the LR mayor of the pink city.
