the action of the garbage collectors continues while waiting for a meeting of the inter-union
On December 3, the unions failed to reach an agreement with the Metropolis. The latter had indeed the decision to put an end to the “finished game”. A decision that arouses the anger of garbage collectors: an inter-union will take place tomorrow, December 10.
The new law on the transformation of the civil service requires territorial agents to work 1607 hours – 35 hours per week. Until then, the 600 Toulouse garbage collectors, whose postage takes place at 5 am, could return home as soon as the garbage collection is finished. But they will have, from January 1, to wait until the end of their service at the depot until noon. A wait estimated at eight days a year.
The garbage collectors thus began a movement of “zealous strike” on November 15 obliging the to private companies for the collection of household refuse.
“It’s blackmail”
Since then, nothing seems to have changed: the community reaffirmed yesterday, during a technical committee, is not going back on its decision … “The elected officials put the end of the finite party as a prerequisite for any negotiation. It’s unacceptable, it’s blackmail“, estimates Benoît Fontanilles, secretary of the autonomous union FA-FPT – recalling that the unions voted against unanimously.
“When we remove the finished party, the trucks are no longer regulated … And it may be that, unfortunately, they will empty at the same time“, he also noted. Result: possible traffic jams in the streets of Toulouse, but also on the already largely congested ring road, as the unionist wanted to show on this video:
duration of the video: 00 min 13
The end of the finished party would cause potential congestion in an already congested city.

The metropolis, for its part, puts forward arguments of legality, but also of security. Garbage collectors often work fast to complete their shift early. There would thus be 3.5 times more accidents at work, according to Vincent Terrail-Noves, vice-president in charge of waste. “By putting an end to the finite, we ask them to take more time, to use mechanization in its entirety … We want [qu’ils] arrive at retirement in the best possible state of health “, we had specified last November 4th.

The proposed compensation – two additional weekly rest days to take into account the arduous nature of the work – does not satisfy the collection agents. An inter-union meeting will take place on Friday 10 to take stock of the strike and decide on the actions to come in December. A community council will be held on December 16.
