The phenomenon of corruption is declining in all spheres of activity, according to the survey “Victimization and management of the crime phenomenon in the Republic of Moldova”.

According to the survey, corruption is the second most widespread crime in the Republic of Moldova.
8% of respondents stated that at least once an official asked them for favors to solve a problem.
However, this phenomenon has diminished.
The survey shows that there are many more cases of bribery of police officers or offering of unofficial payments in medical institutions.
“If in 2009, 17% of respondents said they bribed in the medical sector, in 2021 the figure is 3.6%. In 2009, 8% of respondents said that they bribed the police in road traffic, now the figure is 1.7% “, said Jean Redpath, international expert, author of the statistical data analysis report. The incidence of bribery in the education system has also decreased. If in 2009, 8% of respondents said they bribed at school, now the figure is 1.1%.
In the top of the most common crimes in the Republic of Moldova, along with the phenomenon of corruption, is violence. “8.9% of respondents said they were victims of these crimes.
