the mobilization of social workers in pictures
Several unions called on social workers to strike on December 7. They are calling for an increase in wages, better working conditions and more resources in the host establishments. In Toulouse, they were numerous to pound the pavement.
They take care of people with disabilities, the homeless, RSA beneficiaries, undocumented people or even young people who are adrift … and are angry.
Low wages, stress, loss of meaning … social workers are in the streets this Tuesday to demand an increase in their wages and better working conditions.
A call to strike has been launched by several unions including the CGT, Solidaires and SUD-Santé, the Unitary Union Federation (FSU), as well as various collectives such as Les Briés du social or Le Social déchaîné.
In Toulouse they were several thousand to express their discontent.
Last November, Prime Minister Jean-Castex spoke of a “future conference of professions in social and medico-social support“, but for the moment the social workers have not obtained any progress.
In this context, the Social Work Training Institutes (IFTS) which issue diplomas for these professions are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit. In 2010, 14,000 students graduated, compared to 9,460 in 2018.
After the rally in front of the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council, the Toulouse social and medico-social mobilization was organized with a procession in the direction of the Regional Health Agency in Toulouse.
