Genoa, frost emergency at school: the boys go on strike at Lanfranconi and D’Oria
Problems with heating. The former Province: contract expired, interventions on call. At Vittorio Emanuele (in the Firpo headquarters) the lift is broken: students must use the external staircase
Genoa – Classrooms in the cold: on Tuesday morning the students of the Lanfranconi high school in Voltri, half classes of the high school D’Oria and four classes – two fourth and two fifth – of Vittorio Emanuele returned homewhich are located on the sixth floor of the Firpo. No lessons: in some cases the thermometer in the classrooms has reached 12 degrees. And for the teachers and pupils of Vittorio Emanuele based at Firpo there is also another problem: because for two weeks now, the lift to reach the sixth floor has been broken. For urgent work on the gas line in via Opisso, the children of the primary school of Pascoli and of the Albero Azzurro kindergarten of Comprensivo Pegli also suffered from colder temperatures.
Frost in the classroom
To the high school Lanfranconi the problems had already emerged on Monday with a request for intervention by the head teacher Francesco Bertolini. On Tuesday morning the students entering the first band, at 8, entered while the children of the second shift, that of 9, waited outside given the freezing temperatures in the classrooms. «At 7.30 I called Metropolitan City, asking for an intervention – Bertolini – when I saw that they weren’t arriving I told the boys who had already entered, the teachers and the students left outside to go home. There weren’t the conditions to take lessons ». The intervention was then implemented at noon.
also al high school D’Oria the students chose the path of the strike due to the cold: “A little less than half of the children did not enter the classroom – says the principal Mariaurelia Viotti – despite endless communications in the metropolitan city and an almost daily dialogue, the problems with the heating system that is starting to have its age ». The two quart classes and the two fifth classes of the Vittorio Emanuele which are based, however, at Firpo in via Canevari yesterday morning they went on strike because of the cold. An inconvenience that involved the sixth floor of the building – the one that, in fact, houses four classes of the Vittorio Emanuele – and not the rest of the floors. In addition to this, there is the fact that the lift has not been working for two weeks. “For the anti Covid measures our kids, to go up to the sixth floor, must use the external staircase and not the internal one on days of heavy rain – explains professor Manuela Rota, alongside student representatives and colleague Maria Teresa Colao – we teachers have the discomfort of moving between three different locations, given that Vittorio Emanuele has classes in largo Zecca, in via Balbi and in via Canevari. Whoever is in via Canevari, among the students, suffers from being something apart, detached from the headquarters and from all the services. To this is added the discomfort for the broken lift: I, who have an ankle prosthesis, have not been able to reach my boys for two weeks ». And the freezing classrooms are one of the problems raised by the Medium Student Network in the meeting it had with Metropolitan City. “There are many problems in the schools of the city, not only for heating – underlines Francesco Devoti – at the King high school when it rains the gymnasium and the stairs are flooded, at the Da Vinci high school a terrace is unsafe”.
Metropolitan city: “Reported”
“The problems exist because it is the coldest time of the year, both because the classrooms are often aired for anti-Covid safety regulations and because we are in a moment of transition contract: the contract with the old company has expired. was in charge of the boilers and the final award, which will start on January 1st, was delayed by an appeal ». Laura Repetto is the councilor of the metropolitan city who, among the delegations, has that to the school building. “In this transition phase, until January 1, intervention times are less rapid because at the moment we can deal with on-call companies – explains Repetto – the remote management that allowed us to have the pulse of the situation in real time but at the same time we put our utmost effort and invite the schools, especially now, to report any inconvenience as quickly as possible“. Both at Lanfranconi and D’Oria the technicians of the Metropolitan City will be present on December 9, at the reopening after the stop of the Immaculate Conception. «For both D’Oria and Lanfranconi we had the hours of operation of the boilers. D’Oria needs a job of cleaning the radiators from the sediments present: to do it even with the boiler running and therefore it is scheduled before Christmas. At Lanfranconi we have solved two different problems. On the Firpo we were aware of problems with the air vents: we activated. And on the lift: there is the presence of water in the pit, the intervention is scheduled for next week ».
