Russia will be able to challenge the decision on Scythian gold in 2022 | News | News
The decision of the court in Amsterdam to transfer to Ukraine the collection of Scythian gold, which belongs to the museums of Crimea, may be challenged in the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in 2022. This is what Mikhail Shvydkoy, special representative of the President of Russia for international cultural cooperation, is talking about.
“And naturally, the Allard Pearson Museum, Crimean museums and, of course, Ukraine, which entered this history later, will participate in this,” he said. TASS…
According to him, it will be “quite difficult to introduce another player” in the consideration of the Supreme Court.
The controversial exhibits were sent to the Crimea: Gold and Secrets of the Black Sea exhibition at the Allard Pearson Museum in Amsterdam in February 2014, even before Crimea joined Russia. In total, more than 2 thousand items were sent to the capital of the Netherlands.
On October 26, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruled that the Allard Pearson Museum should deposit gold in storage in Ukraine “until the situation stabilizes” on the peninsula. The instance emphasized that it was not considering the issue of its attributes, only the transfer.
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, called the decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal inappropriate and outrageous. He admits that Scythian gold is an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of Crimea, which means that the exhibits should be returned to the funds of Crimean museums.
In turn, the first deputy head of the international committee of the Federation Council, Vladimir Dzhabarov, called the court’s decision politicized and biased. He pointed out that Scythian gold has always been stored in the Crimea, and wondered where to store it in Ukraine.
On November 17, the director of the East Crimean Historical and Cultural Museum, Tatyana Umrikhina, said that Russia intends to appeal the decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal on the transfer of Scythian gold to Ukraine.
