Avalanche explosion on the A10 – salzburg.ORF.at
traffic
Because of the large amount of fresh snow, an avalanche will be detonated on Tuesday in the early afternoon near Flachauwinkl above the Tauern Autobahn. The A10 must be completely closed in both directions for one hour.
ASFINAG emphasizes that the avalanche detonation is purely a precautionary measure. At Flachauwinkl (Pongau) there is currently avalanche warning level three above the tree line – also significant avalanche danger.
Avalanche-dangerous slope
The Tauern autobahn runs below the Benzeck summit – which is considered to be dangerous for avalanches, says the Flachau and Golling autobahn master, Christian Kleewein: “This slope is dangerous for avalanches and has been assessed as such. For this reason, ASFINAG installed an avalanche blasting system back in 2005. With remote ignition, as a precautionary measure, blasting is carried out again and again when there is a lot of snow. “
Explosion as a precaution
After the fresh snow of the last few days and then the Flachau avalanche commission and ASFINAG decided to blast it, so Kleewein: take the autobahn or municipal road. “
Complete lock of the A10
The A10 must be completely blocked for the blasting – from 1.45 p.m. the lane in the direction of Salzburg will be blocked, from 2.00 p.m. the direction of Villach will be blocked. ASFINAG recommends to wait for the duration of the ban and not to evade over a large area.
