Why Tom Pietermaat (Beerschot) deliberately does not wear a mouth mask
The players in the Pro League have been wearing a mouth mask before and after the game since last weekend. At Beerschot there was one exception: Tom Pietermaat decided not to put on a mouth mask and also why.

Pietermaat shared via Instagram Stories “that he does not agree that young children suddenly have to wear a mouth mask.” The 29-year-old Pietermaat, who became a father for the first time last summer, believes that “you should not frighten children by saying that they are the engine of the pandemic.”
In a comment to Gazette of Antwerp he said: “I definitely don’t want to polarize, but I don’t think the children should be the victims of this. They don’t get sick, the mask slows down their development and instills fear in them. That’s why I didn’t set up my mouth mask before the start of the match. I don’t really want to say more about it,” said the Beerschot midfielder.
In order to reduce the high number of corona infections in the short term and to reduce the pressure on care, the Consultation Committee first of all took measures for children aged 6 to 12 years. Because they are not vaccinated, the virus circulates firmly among them. The extension of the mouth mask obligation from the age of 6 started on Saturday.
