Police school only with a Swiss passport
Cantonal Council of Zurich
From the outset, training at the police school will only be possible with a Swiss passport
In the canton of Zurich, training at the police school can only be started with a Swiss passport. This was decided by the canton council.
Anyone wishing to become a police officer in the Canton of Zurich must be naturalized at the start of their training. The Cantonal Council decided on this in its first reading on Monday. With this, the parliament overrides the cities of Zurich and Winterthur.
The Cantonal Council approves an amendment to the Police Organization Act with 93 yes to 73 no and 3 abstentions. This change makes Swiss citizenship a prerequisite for police training. The trigger for this was an advance by the SVP.
The city of Winterthur has also so far granted foreigners with a C permit for training. The city of Zurich intended to introduce this relaxation. This is probably no longer possible for the city. However, the decision is not yet final. The second reading with a final vote will take place in around four weeks. (sda)
