Malta joins the Jewish community in celebrating Hanukkah
Malta has joined the Jewish community in celebrating its annual light festival, Hanukkah, with President George Vella addressing the annual event.
The 10th Hanukkah celebrated by the Chabad of Malta Foundation was led by Rabbi Chaim Segal and culminated in the traditional light of the menorah.
“On behalf of the people of Malta, I join you, dear members of the Jewish community in Malta and foreigners among us, to light the menorah, and through its light, reflected in the streets of Valletta, spread symbolic rays of health, peace and stability for all peoples around the world, ”President Vella told the crowd gathered at the City Gate.
The President emphasized that celebrations such as Hanukkah reaffirm the shared belief in the importance of facilitating interfaith dialogue and promoting a culture of tolerance and peace. He explained that dialogue between people of different religious beliefs and respect for different beliefs are an expression of a shared commitment to promoting a world guided by the universal principles of compassion and fraternity, and political and economic systems based on -sustainability and respect for human rights.
He also stressed the importance of education.
“Our planet is our only home. All people, regardless of race, geographical location, religious denomination, or political status, are part of this great human family. The well-being and survival of our natural resources and the preservation of our common heritage are interconnected with our committed approach to respecting human life and dignity. These are the spark and flame that ignite and guide us during these testing times. Let us unite to celebrate our diversity and join forces for a more just and peaceful world. ”
