Toulouse. The cry of alarm from event and catering pros in the face of the 5th wave of Covid

They were starting to regain hope … but the fifth wave of Covid-19 and the omicron variant could dampen their enthusiasm. While at Toulouse event professionals face a wave of cancellation for their end-of-year events and which restaurant owners are also worried about, the sector has just launched a cry for help and asks for “immediate help to the government”, in a press release from Medef 31.
Almost 50% of reservations canceled in December
“The month of December is one of the very big months of the year for us with end-of-year meals, company meals, etc., sighs Thomas fantini vice-president of the employers’ union, in charge of catering and events. More information on Elisabeth’s recent announcements »
In an interview with France infoOn November 26, the Minister of Labor had notably indicated that it was “not recommended” to make end-of-year pots.
“We are undergoing! “
“For us it is incomprehensible, castigates Thomas Fantini. What is maddening is that one day Olivier Véran said a chosen one and the next day the Minister of Labor said the opposite. And we suffer. “
Uncertainty and cascading cancellations of events which inevitably weigh on the morale of the bosses. “There was a good resumption of activity that the month of December should consolidate, which was going to allow us to take shelter. But the impact of these cancellations is terrible, especially since we have no visibility for the first quarter of 2022. For us, everything is falling apart. “
Partial unemployment and aid for fixed charges
According to the vice-president of Medef Haute Garonne, it is the medium-sized companies that cover the most of the situation in the department. And to overcome this new difficult passage, the Medef calls for help and a return to the system set up at the height of the Covid crisis, with in particular the return of highly supported partial unemployment and aid on fixed charges.
“We must help companies, insists Thomas Fantini. Otherwise they will not have enough equity when it comes time to start repaying government guaranteed loans next year. And it will be disaster. ”
Weight on the morale of bosses and employees
Another concern: while catering and events are struggling to recruit, these new concerns could again turn away potential candidates, tired of running out of short and medium term prospects.
“We were starting to make people want to work for us again: we really didn’t need that. There, morale, everyone explodes. Both employees and managers elsewhere. “
Other unions and associations of the profession should launch alerts similar to the one just released by Medef 31, throughout France. They hope to be heard. “One more step and we will all fall over the precipice. “
