The two young people, according to what has been reconstructed, were on board a Fiat 500 which was traveling along the Via Pedemontana from the Borgo Maggiore Castle towards the Murata Castle. Shortly before 10pm, due to causes still under investigation by the San Marino Civil Police, the small car swerved to the left while at that moment a Volksvagen Golf with the Republic of Titan license plate was arriving. The two vehicles collided head-on in a tremendous impact and, behind the Golf, a BMW arrived whose driver crashed into the other vehicles.
In the crash, which completely destroyed Fiat, the two 18-year-olds lost their lives instantly. The alarm went off and the health workers and the staff of the Civil Police and the Fire Department rushed to the scene. There was nothing for the couple to do and the doctor could only declare his death while the 30-year-old driver of the BMW was transported to the emergency room with minor injuries. Via Pedemontana was closed by the police to allow for the ritual surveys and, on the spot, the commander of the Civil Police Werter Selva and the Commissioner of the Law on call Elisa Beccari also intervened. The bodies of the victims were transported to the State Hospital where, on Sunday morning, the relatives carried out the recognition of the sad formalities.
