A Salzburg man reports on the death of German villages
In Germany, the living quarters of thousands of people have to give way to coal mining. The photographer Arne Müseler wrote a book entitled “Lost Land”.
Arne Müseler worked on his project for 15 years. In 2006 he and his brother visited the Garzweiler opencast mine in North Rhine-Westphalia for the first time. Lignite is mined there for energy generation on an area of 31 square kilometers. For this purpose, villages were and are being demolished in three sections and the people living there resettled.
