The anti-pass demonstration banned in the city center of Toulouse
The Occitanie prefecture has decided that access to the Toulouse hypercentre is prohibited for undeclared demonstrations on Saturday, November 27.
Access denied. Access to the Toulouse hypercentre is prohibited “to any unreported protest rally on Saturday 27 November”, according to a decree unveiled by the prefecture of Occitanie on Friday 26 November.
“Public order disturbances occurred in downtown Toulouse during undeclared gatherings in recent months, during which acts of violence took place within the procession, anarchic wanderings in the city center of Toulouse, an obstacle to traffic by means of metal barriers placed on the public highway by demonstrators ”, recalls the prefecture of Occitanie in a press release to justify this decision. It also notes “attempts to intrude into the town hall of Toulouse and the regional prefecture, violence, throwing projectiles and insults committed on various occasions and causing injuries among the police”. She believes these problems could recur on Saturday, November 27.
In addition, the prefecture considers that “the absence of a declaration of event does not make it possible to identify organizers capable of controlling the number of participants”.
Without citing it, this decision taken by the prefecture of Occitanie directly affects the demonstration against the modalities of the health pass and compulsory vaccination for certain professions in Toulouse. Although planned, the event is not declared to the prefecture. Also, the movement is horizontal and therefore has no leader.
The prefecture’s decision is not a surprise. A similar decree has been taken every week by the State services since July.
