Biden is concerned about allegations of a coup in Ukraine
US President Joe Biden says he is concerned about the possibility of a coup in Ukraine.
“I am concerned. Look, we support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, we support their action to govern their country,” he said during a conversation with journalists.
Asked whether he would discuss the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or Russian President Volodymyr Putin, Joe Biden said: “It is possible.”
“Coup on December 1-2“
On November 26, during the marathon, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had information about preparations for a coup d’etat in Ukraine on December 1-2 with the participation of “representatives of Russia.” It may also be that businessman Rinat Akhmetov may be involved.
Asked whether Ukraine would have a large-scale war with Russia, the president said that such a possibility exists every day, and added that Ukraine also has internal challenges.
“We have not only intelligence, but audio information, where representatives of Ukraine and Russia are discussing Rinat Akhmetov’s participation in the coup in Ukraine. Where a billion dollars will be raised… He is involved in the war against the state of Ukraine,” the president said.
Zelensky’s statement shocked the world press. Words about the coup were quoted by many world media.
The Kremlin denies involvement in preparing a coup in Ukraine. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
At the same time, Rinat Akhmetov called Zelensky’s statement a lie. “I am outraged by the spread of such lies, regardless of the motives that are being guided. My position will be unequivocal – an independent and realized Ukraine with Crimea and my native Donbass. My actions confirm this,” said Mr. Akhmetov.
Subsequently, BuzzFeed journalist Christopher Miller, citing sources close to Zelensky, posted on Twitter that the coup was probably planned by FSB officers and three defectors of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the occupied crime.
