A life linked to the Principality
Woman of culture, figure of the Resistance during the Second World War, Joséphine Baker has always made her fighting her reason for living. On August 28, 1963, for example, she spoke during the legendary American speech given by pastor and activist Martin Luther King in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.
The activist had a special relationship with the Principality. At the end of the 60s, Princess Grace Kelly had indeed welcomed her, with her twelve children, a few steps from the Rock.
Linked to Monaco, Joséphine Baker has greatly participated in the cultural, social and charitable life of the Principality, of which she is an intergenerational figure.
Tuesday, November 30, Joséphine Baker will make her official entry into the Republican temple of the Pantheon in Paris. However, according to the wishes of her children, the music hall icon, who died at the age of 68, still rests in the Monaco cemetery where she has been buried since 1975.
