Salzburg: Bicycle thief threatened witnesses with a knife
Passers-by saw an 18-year-old man stealing a bicycle in Salzburg’s old town on Thursday evening. The man reaches for the knife.
The two passers-by, a 39-year-old Austrian and a 51-year-old Swiss, had seen the young man break the lock on the bicycle. The two spoke to the perpetrator, highlighting that the witness threatened with a knife and drove away on the stolen bicycle.
The passers-by alerted the police by means of an emergency call. After a short manhunt, the officers discovered the stolen bike on the left bridgehead of the Marko Feingold footbridge. Shortly afterwards, the police surprised a person on the other side of the jetty who matched the description of the perpetrator.
During a confrontation, this was identified by the two witnesses and arrested by the police. The bike was handed over to the person who was stolen, a 42-year-old from Salzburg, shortly afterwards.
