Monaco rolls out a red carpet with the shoes of femicide victims
This Thursday, as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Zonta Club of Monaco rolled out a red carpet on the steps of Saint-Charles Church on Boulevard des Moulins.
A red carpet to pay tribute. But not just any red carpet. This was covered with a total of pairs of women’s shoes. And most of it was a little white piece of paper with a first name and an age. Those of those who have died as a result of domestic violence around the world.
One hundred, a number which is unfortunately not only symbolic.
In France, since January 1, 2021, more than 100 feminicides have been identified. Last year, this threshold was crossed the same week.
In principle, no femicide has been recorded this year, physical violence against women is very real. In 2020, 39 women said they were victims. Half in their home. And on Monegasque soil.
So more than ever, the Zonta Club continues its fight for here and elsewhere. So that, everywhere in the world, no woman lives in fear of this violence.
This Friday, alongside other local associations, it will be present in the Fontvieille shopping mall on stands set up by the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights.
Finally, on December 2, the club is organizing a Christmas dinner at Le Cipriani restaurant in favor of Afghan women (1) with the participation of Chékéba Hachemi, founder of the Afghanistan Libre association, since 1996.
