Austria’s politicians under fire after the fundraising gala
Celebrities, musicians and politicians celebrated at the ongoing charity event “Licht im Dunkel” on Austrian radio – despite a lockdown since Monday. Among the politicians were Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg, Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) and Pamela Rendi-Wagner, head of the Austrian Social Democrats.

The “Licht im Dunkel” benefit is Austria’s largest aid campaign. In the evening, around 3 million euros in donations were collected. The Austrian Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) defended the event against the daily newspaper “Kurier” and referred to the high safety standards that had been met beforehand. Only those vaccinated and recovered with a negative corona test were allowed to attend the event (2G plus).
