Why lockdown-free Sweden can be your safest bet for a skiing holiday
Extra tension
If you start to get tired of downhill skiing, there is always the opportunity for another of the Swedes’ favorite outdoor activities: cross-country skiing. There are plenty of prepared routes, with 300 km of tracks around the Sälen area, almost 100 km at Åre and more than 80 km at Idre. For those who want the same beautiful views, but none of the effort with full body training, there are options for husky sledding or snowmobile rides in the resorts, or even reindeer and ice fishing in Åre.
Child-friendly after
Picturesque Åre is perfect for all levels of skiers, but especially those looking for a vibrant nightlife. Feststaden offers a wide range of restaurants, bars and après-ski and live music venues. Do not be surprised at what children look like on après ski that swings to the band’s songs in miniature light-reducing headphones. Children are welcome everywhere in family-friendly Sweden, and it is no different when skiing.
Family focus
The local mascots – including a cuddly snowman, a friendly wolf, a clean and happy troll – arrange après-ski activities especially for the children. At Hundfjället, there are many of these in Trollskogen, a lovely green ski slope that winds its way between the trees and populated with carved wooden trolls to enchant the youngest.
