From this Thursday, November 25, 2021, at Toulouse, users of lines L1 and L2 can request to get off between two bus stops, from 10 p.m. until the end of the service, in order to be closer to their final destination.
A test until next June
“It is the 2019 mobility orientation law that makes this system possible,” explains Nicolas Misiak, president of Tisséo Voyageurs. Twelve cities have already implemented descent on demand and it was a campaign promise by Jean-Luc Moudenc. “
From which Tisséo was inspired to develop this new offer designed as “a new weapon against gender-based and sexual violence in public spaces“. The device will therefore be tested on lines L1 and L2 until next June, with an analysis of the experience every three months.
Report to the driver on the way up
The descent on demand is primarily intended for women, but all people in vulnerable situations Subscribe to it. Passengers are therefore invited to get on the front of the bus to let the driver know that they want to get off between two stops. They will then have to stay near the bus driver during the trip and notify him of the request at least two stops before getting off.
“It will be up to the driver to decide if he can stop and where he can stop,” specifies Nicolas Misiak. The drivers have been specifically trained. “
Warning, bus routes will not be diverted, the stops will occur on the usual route.
Other lines concerned if the experiment is conclusive
“Even if it allows you to get closer to only 250 meters from your home, that’s already it”, explains Karine Traval Michelet, mayor of Colomiers where the Linéo L2 line passes. »250 meters when you are a woman alone at night, that can seem very long! “
By boosting safety, Tisséo also hopes to attract new users. “This device is well suited to young people who go out, but also to those who work shifted schedules and who want to return safely, says Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor of Colomiers, terminus city of the L2 line. I have had several testimonials from people who prefer to take their car because they feel more protected, they have to be offered an alternative. “
If the experiment is successful, descent on demand could be extended to other bus lines of the Toulouse metropolis.
