A protest rally at the statue of Venizelos was held in Thessaloniki for the situation in public health. The mobilization organized by the Association of Hospital Doctors of Thessaloniki (ENITH) with the participation of trade unions of the city.
Basic demands are the strengthening of public hospitals, permanent recruitment, stopping the “commercialization” of health with the recruitment of the pandemic, more infrastructure, beds, etc.
The health workers demand the strengthening of the public hospitals, the revocation of the decision of the deputy minister, no reduction of the already reduced surgeries in the NSS, mass permanent recruitments, unconditional permanent tenure and conditions of all contract workers, the immediate termination of the performance of the private health sector – infrastructure, personnel, equipment, laboratories and reagents unconditionally, to fight for the health of the people without discrimination and exclusion.
After the rally, a procession followed through Agia Sofia Square and Tsimiski Street, which ended at Aristotelous Square.
The president of ENITH, Christos Karachristos, noted that the situation in the hospitals “has gotten out of control, because the government and the state have not taken any of the measures requested by the health workers all this time”.
