Fourth lockdown much looser and more going
Coronavirus
If in Salzburg you have the feeling that the fourth lockdown is looser than the last wrong one, then you are not wrong. Initial mobility data show that a lot of people are on the go. There are no empty streets and the rules are different.
Unlike in the first lockdown, service providers and schools are also open, and more and more closed retailers are also offering “Click and Collect” – in other words, the customer orders online and selects the “Pick-up” option. Many people feel that there is more going on than in previous lockdowns.
Researchers have now also proven this with data. In the first lockdown, people in Salzburg were 64 percent less on the move, now in the fourth lockdown it is 17 percent less. Only in the third lockdown were the Salzburgers even more mobile.
Many switch to the car
There are many reasons for this. In general, there is the lockdown trend: away from public transport, switch to the car. And because it’s getting colder, many cyclists now prefer to get into the car. Aloisia Gurtner, press spokeswoman for the ÖAMTC Salzburg: “A lot of people who have ridden their bikes in summer and autumn are now switching to their cars. In addition, we already have a little run-up to Christmas. Even when the shops are closed, there are orders and a pick-up service – so the traffic increases with that too. “
There is also a lot going on at the train station
In the first lockdown, only ten percent of the passengers were traveling by train. Salzburg’s ÖBB press spokesman Robert Mosser said: “An important point is that many parents already take advantage of the childcare facilities in schools and so the students are still on the move. But there is also a lot going to work. ”The timetable should be kept up to ensure that everyone dies at work or school must also come there, says Mosser.
