Gathered before the Toulouse Court of Appeal, Monday, November 22, 2021, activists of the Extinction Rebellion movement protested against the Total group and its actions.
“Climate-related and criminal acts”
In a statement, the activists fire red balls on “the climaticidal and criminal acts of this company ”. It is the multinational Total which is entirely global.
Of fake oil was dumped before the Toulouse Court of Appeal. Banners have also been deployed. Red Debels accompanied the activists to perform an artistic performance.
An action that is directed as part of an international campaign, since Total’s headquarters have been invested in or even in the Congo. “All these actions have one and the same but: the collapse of Total ”, hammers Extinction Rebellion.
Skepticism and fears
Two real feelings emerge from the movement. The first: a skepticism, which finds its source in the change of name of Total, now called TotalEnergies. ” We are not fools, this greenwashing strategy does not work. ”
If in its words, Total presents itself as greener than green, its actions do not deceive. His latest project? EACOP, a 1,450 km pipeline that expropriated 100,000 Ugandans in addition to crossing a nature reserve. It is an ecological and humanitarian disaster of more than 5 billion dollars.
“The destruction of the environment, here or elsewhere, is a threat to all of us, ”the activists finally fear. “Total also seeks to prevent political decisions that could go against of its deadly economic model. “
The example of COP26 is mentioned by Extinction Rebellion: “more than 100 oil companies were represented, against less than 30 NGOs”.
