It was at 6 p.m. on November 26 that Christmas lights will be launched at Toulouse. And for this year 2021, the town hall has chosen to “rhyme end-of-year celebration with ecological responsibility”.
Sugar cane decorations
“We wanted to set up more durable decorations, explains Jean-Baptiste de Scoraille, deputy mayor in charge of public lighting. But not in a chosen way, in order to maintain a festive spirit from one year to the next. “
A progressive evolution therefore, with in particular the installation of recyclable and biodegradable decorations in certain places of Toulouse. “We called on a new service provider,” says Jean-Baptiste de Scoraille. He begins to develop ecological decorations, made from sugar cane balls, which can be recycled. This type of decoration will be installed on the Victor-Hugo market or on the Goudouli fountain (where the scenography has been completely redesigned).
Greener trees
While the giant Christmas tree, made up of nearly 400 natural trees, is back on the Jean-Jaurès alleys, six new synthetic and practically entirely recyclable trees have appeared in several places in the Pink City. The largest is located on Place Saint-Etienne, you can admire the other places of the Trinité, Place Jeanne d’Arc, Place Saint-Georges, Place Dupuy and on the forecourt of Saint-Sernin.
“In the long term, these synthetic trees will replace the metallic metal trees that can be seen in the various districts of Toulouse”, confides the elected official in charge of public lighting. 79 cone fir trees will be installed in the neighborhoods, including 24 new ones. The others will be replaced by December 2023.
700,000 euros budget
In all these are 16.5 km of garlands which have been installed in Toulouse with 553,000 LEDs. The harmony of the decorations has been worked on this year, with a new aesthetic in shades of red and gold. “We wanted the festive spirit to be as present in the neighborhoods as in the city center,” says the elected official in charge of lighting. And it will be fleshed out in this direction in the years to come. “
For the first time, part of the decorations have been rented. And in some places, such as rue Alsace-Lorraine, they were designed to be as pretty by day as by night. The town hall of Toulouse has devoted 700,000 euros to its Christmas decorations.
