Sofiane Diop elected Monegasque MVP of the shock against Lille

Sugar Mizzy November 22, 2021

Author of a superb performance, the hopeful international attacking midfielder was named man of the match against LOSC (2-2) by the Rouge et Blanc fans on the AS Monaco App.

Despite the very unfavorable scenario for the Monegasques, he delivered a capital game. Dangerous from the first minutes of the meeting, in the wake of a lightning start from the Northerners (0-2 after 9 minutes), Sofiane Diop was one of the great men of AS Monaco on Friday night (2-2). Confusing in his dribbling and sharp in his forward projections, it was first he who lit the first fuse in the 25th minute, with a dry strike from 25 meters.

At the origin of the first but Monegasque

Very mobile and available between the lines, it is then responsible for reducing the gap at Krépin Diatta. It is he who reverses the game towards Youssouf Fofana with a touch of the ball, which serves the Senegalese international at the corner of the Lille area, who hooks then finished from the left (1-2, 41st). When he returned from the locker room, he did not drop off. Author of a magnificent roulette-center sequence in the opposing 16 meters after returning from the locker room, the international hope tricolor (6 selections, 3 goals and 4 assists) sounded the Monegasque revolt.

Second best recuperator of the match

Untenable on his left flank, he tired until the defense of LOSC, until the equalization of his captain, Wissam Ben Yedder (2-2, 83rd). Very active, he finished the meeting with 80 balls touched, that is to say the second highest total, but especially four last passes before a shot. It was he who thus created the most situations on the Red and White side, with also four centers in the game on the clock. Finally, he played a large part in the defensive effort, recovering nine balls in the heart of the game, only three less than Aurélien Tchouameni and Benjamin André (12).

A luxury Sofiane-Wissam duo

It is therefore without too much suspense that Sofiane Diop was elected MVP of the match by Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App, with 51% of the votes. He is still slightly ahead of his captain (33%), the liberator Wissam Ben Yedder, author of his 50th birthday with the Principality club. The eighth out of the bench in 2021, a record in the Big 5. Well done to the two main architects of this fiery comeback against Lille!
