Plans for a new recycling facility in Sweden
The application concerned the establishment of a recycling plant on an industrial site in the district of Lillesjö in Uddevalla municipality. The plant would have an initial annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes of used tires, but the long-term plan for the plant is to process up to 60,000 tonnes per year. Enviro expects the application process to take up to a year.
A final decision on the establishment of the new facility is dependent on the environmental permit being granted and several other factors, such as securing access to end-of-life tires and agreements on deliveries of recycled material. The company’s plan is for the new facility to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.
Enviro has developed a patented method for recycling used tires to recycle valuable raw materials such as carbon black, oil and steel. Using recycled carbon black and oil instead of virgin carbon black and fossil fuels has significant benefits for the climate. Since April 2020, the international French tire manufacturer Michelin has been the single largest shareholder in Enviro, with a holding of 20 percent.
