Prague – In Prague, people again protested against epidemic measures at the event of the Open Czechia movement – He wanted PES. According to a ČTK correspondent, about 150 of them met. Meetings near Parliament’s buildings are prohibited by law. In addition, the municipality did not accept notification of the event due to late submission. Police officers did not notice any disturbance of public order in connection with the actions, Prague police spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová told ČTK.
Protesters gathered in front of Prague Castle. They carried banners with the inscriptions “Traitors of the Nation” and photographs by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES), Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES), Chief Hygienist Pavla Svrčinová or former Minister of Health and Epidemiology Roman Prymula (for YES). On the banners, the protesters also identified epidemiologist Rastislav Hungarian or evolutionary biologist Jaroslav Flegr as traitors, who have repeatedly spoken out publicly about the covid-19 epidemic and anti-epidemic measures. Protesters also shouted, “Traitors of the nation belong to prison.”
The organizers announced that the protest march would also take place around the buildings of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic or the Parliament. The law on the right of assembly prohibits such an action in the Parliament. According to the spokesman of the Prague City Hall, Vít Hofman, due to a violation of the law and also because the organizers of the demonstration did not send the city information about the protest in time, the event was not accepted by the city council. “We did not find a reason for acceptance in a shorter period of time, mainly due to the fact that the parade has places where it is forbidden,” the spokesman said. In the end, the protest participants took a different route and subsequently criticized the mayor Zdeněk Hřiba (Pirates) for not accepting the announcement during the march around the municipality.
The Open Czechia – Chcípl movement The PES organized demonstrations due to measures against Covid-19 last week on the national holiday of November 17. At that time, according to police estimates, around 10,000 people gathered in the Old Town Square in Prague. The participants in the demonstration did not have veils and did not keep any spacing. Police again called on them to comply with the anti-epidemic measures in force.
