“We are sorry to announce that the festive lighting of the Christmas tree in the Old Town Square, scheduled for November 27, will not take place due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation. Advent is above all waiting for birth. Let’s not allow it to turn into the opposite in dozens of ICUs, “the city organization Prague City Tourism announced on Twitter. Just like last year, the spruce lights up on the weekend without fanfare and speeches.
The form of the markets under the coronavirus pandemic regulations and rules will be clearer on Wednesday when Taiko is scheduled to hold a press conference.

A spruce over twenty-two meters long and about sixty years old was felled in Dolní Černá Studnice on Sunday, November 21. He will travel from the Jizera Mountains to Prague’s Old Town Square, where he will be erected on the night from Monday to Tuesday.

The tall and stout spruce tree, which became this year’s Christmas tree for Prague, was chosen by the jury from 35 trees that they have already offered from all over the country. “It simply came to our notice then. It never occurred to us that they would choose our tree from a village of 120 inhabitants, ”explained Eva Kozderková, who requested the request on the radio in April. In September, they learned that spruce from their garden would be the decoration of the Old Town Square.
