vaccination is bearing fruit in Belgium
The latest RAG report focused on vaccination against the coronavirus in Belgium. Once again, it appears that vaccination is indeed effective. If the protection is not 100% effective, the numbers generated by vaccinated people are contaminated to a much lesser extent than others. Indeed, as can be seen in the first table, out of 2,500 contaminations identified per 100,000 inhabitants aged between 18-64 years, more than half of those infected are unvaccinated.
We also see in the second table that it is also the unvaccinated people who are mostly hospitalized in the country, all regions and age groups combined. This trend is also confirmed in intensive care, even if the experts invite to interpret these last data with caution because “of the small numbers (in particular at the regional level)”.
Age is also a factor to take into account. In fact, among those over 65, it is the vaccinated people who are mostly infected. It should be remembered that this category of the population is currently receiving the third booster dose of the vaccine.
The last table gives an account of the vaccination situation in Belgium. It can therefore be seen that the percentage of unvaccinated people by region and by age group is much lower than that of vaccinated people.
