Zurich 10: Stop phone fraudsters | Canton Zurich
During a prevention approach by specialists from the Zurich cantonal police, a woman from Zurich announced that she had been contacted by phone on November 15, 2021 by an alleged security service of a major bank. As a result, they handed over several thousand francs to someone collecting them. The 65-year-old reported fraud.
Shortly afterwards, the lady was contacted again by phone by the alleged security service. SHE was instructed to provide and keep gold bars with a total weight of one kilogram. At the handover monitored by the Zurich canton police on November 19, 2021 in Zurich, investigators identified the alleged telephone fraudster. During the subsequent control of a vehicle with which the person collecting the crime had been driven to the scene, canton police insured two vehicle occupants.
The arrested are three men between the ages of 21 and 31 from Turkey, Morocco and Switzerland who live in the canton of Zurich. Further investigations by the Zurich canton police, in cooperation with the public prosecutor, will show whether the trio is still suitable for further acts.
The Zurich canton police advise to protect themselves from phone fraudsters
– Be suspicious if someone calls you and lets you guess who is on the phone.
– Don’t let yourself be pressured.
– Never answer a claim for money or valuables on the phone.
– Take warnings from bank employees seriously.
– Never give cash or valuables to someone you do not know.
– Simply hang up the phone as soon as the person you are speaking to demands money from you.
– If you are the victim of fraud or attempted fraud, report to the police.
