Union Berlin against Hertha: Hardly any excesses, police satisfied
Berlin – The Berlin police draws a broken positive balance around the capital derby between 1. FC Union Berlin and Hertha BSC (2-0). Except for a few isolated incidents, there were hardly any riots. “That was a successful and smooth mission. This is how a derby should always be, ”said police spokeswoman Anja Dierschke of the Berliner Zeitung in the evening.
In the stadium at the Alte Försterei it quickly remained peaceful without exception. Shortly before the end of the game, Hertha fans apparently lit a smoke pot and a lightning bolt. Andreas Luthe, goalkeeper of the home team, had to get to safety briefly. The Berlin police had to check a fan with fireworks during the game in front of the stadium. There was nothing more.
“Even after the game, pyrotechnics were burned down by the fans. But we keep an eye on that. We are on the move in the city, ”says Anja Dierschke. The police accompanied both groups of fans to the S-Bahn stations. Separately, of course. The Unioners got on at the Köpenick S-Bahn station, the Herthaners at the Spindlersfeld S-Bahn station. “The partying continues in the pubs. However, we have no indications that the fan groups are meeting. We don’t think that there will be arguments, ”says Anja Dierschke.
Brawl in the afternoon in Prenzlauer Berg
According to the police in Köpenick, there were no major disputes before the game. In the afternoon, however, fans of Hertha’s amateur team and Union Berlin clashed in Dunckerstraße in Prenzlauer Berg. Immediately after the mass brawl, the police checked 21 men and one woman. They are now being investigated for breach of the peace.
As the Morgenpost reported in the evening, fans of both teams complained that the 2G rule was not adequately checked at the entrance. Those who had recovered or were fully vaccinated had access to the city derby in the Alte Försterei. In return the Alte Försterei was sold out in the evening. Union Berlin was responsible for checking the 2G rule
