Sentenced for embezzling her mother’s money placed in nursing homes
The Avignon Criminal Court (Vaucluse) found guilty of abuse of weakness on Monday a 56-year-old woman. The mis en cause, who was not present at the time of the judgment, was condemned to one year of suspended sentence. It will also have to pay 300 euros in compensation for non-pecuniary damage to the five people who have become civil parties, reports Provence. The victim was the mother of the fifty-something.
A complaint had been filed by the brothers and sisters of the defendant after the death of their mother. Social services then asked them to pay the unpaid bills of the Ehpad where their mother resided. The amount due is 27,116.64 euros. The siblings had explained that they had cut ties with their sister and mother for a long time.
Food, tobacco and scratch games
It appeared at that time that the money in the elderly woman’s accounts had not been used by her daughter to settle the establishment. Instead, the defendant beneficiary of the RSA had admitted in his statement to have paid his current expenses.
With her mother’s savings, she had not paid for her food and cigarettes expenses, but she had also indulged in scratch and online games. The resident of Pontet (Vaucluse) had also transferred money to her imprisoned husband. She spent a total of 40,000 euros.
