The maternal assistant (or maternal assistant) is an early childhood professional who takes in up to 4 minor children generally under the age of 6. The reception is done at home or in a home of childminders. The person must have been approved by the Maternal and Child Protection service of the department. Childminders can be employed directly by an individual (the parent) or through a family crèche. The municipality of Avignon has around 150 Nursing Assistants approved on its territory.
There are two departments within the CCAS d’Avignon which support these professionals.
The Early Childhood Relay (new name of Relais d’Assistants Maternels) is a place of resources and information for families and Nursery Assistants. The two animators of the service, educators of young children, welcome and inform the public about this type of childcare. They also offer awakening times to childminders and children each week in various places specially designed to accommodate very young children, which are spread over the town. The Maternal Assistants who attend are independent workers, recruited and paid by the parents.
The family nursery is a CCAS reception structure which currently employs 18 Nursery Assistants. These professionals welcome children to their homes, and are CCAS employees. They are supervised and monitored on a daily basis by an Educator of Young Children, a Pediatric Nurse.
The service of the family crèche and the Relais Petite Enfance have worked together to offer, on November 18, 19, festivities intended for the Nursery Assistants of Avignon, the children and the families they welcome. They take place in different places in Avignon and aim to meet, exchange and share.
Some workshops will be led by CCAS professionals, others by an external speaker or even by the Nursery Assistants themselves.
