The match between Iren Genova Quinto and Rari Nantes Salerno was held at the Albaro swimming pools in Genoa, for the sixth day of the A1 series water polo championship. The match ended with the result of 6-7 for Rari Nantes Salerno.
A very balanced match, a painful victory conquered in comeback over a Genoa that in the last stages kept the advantage of a goal over Salerno. For Rari Nantes Salerno this is the first away win of this season. Cuccovillo’s final goal from a penalty spot was decisive. An important victory that propels the team to the top of the standings.
Under two goals at the beginning of the fourth half, the boys of Mr. Citro showed a great performance, especially in defense, keeping the dangerous Ligurian forwards in check.
The races against Quinto are always close and this was no less.
Rari got off to a good start and closed the first quarter ahead thanks to a great goal from Pica. In the second fraction the hosts react by closing at 2-0 and with two poles and two crosspieces that pardon the Giallorossi. Great intensity in the third half which ends 3-3. For the Rari in goal Gluhaic, Cuccovillo and Elez. At the beginning of the last quarter the Ligurians score the goal of the plus 2, but Rari does not get discouraged and attacks with her head down.
Gluhaic and Tomasic even the score when there are just under 5 minutes to go. Race pulled with overturning, on one of these, at 5.24 minutes, Parrilli is good at continually gaining a penalty. The shot goes Cuccovillo who makes no mistake and brings the Rari ahead. Well done then Luongo and his companions to keep the advantage until the whistle of the referee, without taking excessive risks.
“We played with great character and attention, finally defending really well. The guys were really great.“The hot statements of Mr. Matteo Citro are telegraphic.
Some statements by the left-handed attacker who scored the last decisive goal on a penalty, Nicola Cuccovillo: “We stayed in the game until the end and made the most of their mistakes in attack for the first time in this league. We have remained united, all of us towards one goal. A victory that gives morale. Now we have to keep working hard because on Saturday he awaits us in another battle ”.
