Two UK CSGO and Astralis Talent teams will take part in the Sigma Esports Cup LAN in Malta this week
UK sports organizations Feenix and Coalesce will be participating in a CSGO LAN event in Malta this week.
The betting business Esports Technologies, a platinum sponsor at the Sigma Europe betting event, will be presenting the CSGO tournament known as the Sigma Esports Technologies Cup. It aims to bring together ‘game legends with the next generation of players’.
A total of eight teams will take part, including the Astralis Astralis Talent academy team, Saw Youngsters from Portugal, Eversio from Malta, TTC, Tranquillum and FTW, as well as the two UK teams.
The tournament will take place at the Malta Fairs & Conventions Center from 16 to 18 November, and will feature a $ 15,000 prize pool. It will be held in an arena dedicated to sports within the Sigma Esports Village.
There will also be a wildcard team gathered by Esports Technologies and Emil “HeatoN” Christensen, who will also be team captain. HeatoN is a sports manager and former Swedish professional Counter-Strike player, formerly captain of the Ninjas in Pajamas (NiP) team. HeatoN was the manager of NiP until October 2018 and is widely regarded as one of the best Counter-Strike players of all time.
A series of closed online qualifications took place on HLTV from 3 to 6 November to determine the last two teams, who finished as Feenix and Coalesce.
Feenix founder Alastair Whitham told Esports News UK: “After the recent Major and Epic.LAN (34), it looks like international LANs are returning, which is a real winner for fans and players.
“Having 25% of the teams from the UK and Ireland region is a testament to how strong this region is, and after a difficult period, we are showing tremendous growth potential.”
Coalesce co-owner Sam ‘Kanny’ Hollinrake added: “It was a real pleasure to have events back, both in terms of organization and for the players. In the end they can have fun experiencing great places along with pushing their careers.
“It was important for us to go back to the events to really push our content. It’s something that will be on display when our next episode of ‘Strength in Numbers’ is released, documenting our Epic.LAN victory. We are proud to have been invited to the Sigma event in Malta and although we have two stand-ins we feel extremely confident that we can still take the title at home. ”
Mark Thorne, CMO, Esports Technologies, commented: “We are excited to be participating so prominently in this year’s SiGMA Europe, one of the truly elite events in the gaming world. This event well reflects Malta’s emergence as an international hub for the sports industry. “
“We all go out for what promises to be our biggest event so far,” said SiGMA Group founder Eman Pulis. “Esports is one of the fastest growing verticals out there right now, and we are excited to partner with Esports Technologies and Gamers.com.mt to get the most out of this explosive and vibrant ecosystem at Malta Week.”
