Referring to Thessaloniki and its tourism development, Ms. Notopoulou spoke of a city that could become an international destination, while criticizing the government for the over-optimistic message it leaves for tourism, at a time when its revenues industry is not sufficient to fill the accumulated financial gap. due to various factors.
Detailed statement by Katerina Notopoulou:
“Thessaloniki welcomes the people of tourism. The human resources that make up our tourism industry. After a year of mandatory absence, the tourist exhibition “duo” Philoxenia – Hotelia in a completely safe health environment.
Thanks to this exhibition, it is an institution for the city, specifically for 36 whole years, the tourism companies, exhibitors from tourist destinations, hosted buyers from 28 countries but also ordinary citizens who are looking for information about their next professional experience meet in Thessaloniki and give together present at the most important exhibition in the country.
A Thessaloniki that has all those elements that can compose an attractive tourist product and highlight the top destination of the city of international nations. The historical and cultural heritage is always a pole of attraction for a significant number of visitors and one of its greatest advantages. As long as we do not destroy, for example, the ancient metro station of Venizelos under construction, depriving the city and humanity of a unique monument of world value.
Greek tourism is struggling and resisting, with over-effort in recent crises and lack of government support.
This season, the receipts and arrivals moved are encouraging. But the government is trying to cultivate an over-optimistic message about financial figures in order to hide its own failures. The July-August mobility was not the result of some government choices, but of the dynamics that Greek tourism had developed and the ability of its people to provide high quality services.
The crucial question, however, remains whether the revenues are sufficient to fill the financial gap that had accumulated and to ensure the viability of all products or whether the imports are few and therefore we will be in the range of new padlocks.
