Munich: Elementary school on Herrnstrasse is struggling with construction site noise
In addition to the pandemic, the pupils at the elementary school on Herrnstrasse are also suffering from building noise – the parents’ council is now calling for noise protection and air filters.
Old town – At regular intervals it is currently said for schoolchildren: Open the window! Bad enough in freezing temperatures. In the Elementary school on Herrnstrasse have children and teachers with massive noise to fight. Diagonally across from where the Fina parking garage used to be, there are two Residential and commercial buildings erected – and that’s loud.
Old town: Massive noise makes teaching at the Munich primary school difficult
Lessons can only take place under difficult conditions Parents Advisory Board is already alarmed. “At least the last row doesn’t hear anything when the windows are open,” worries Christine Bénardwhose daughter is in third grade. She helps out twice a week PCR tests and therefore knows the local situation well. Together with the chairman of the parents’ council Veronika Binder She therefore demands: It must Soundproof walls (see box) and Air filter She.
The city would have already started to offer all classrooms up to the sixth grade at the start of the new school year mobile air filters equip, that explains Department for Education and Sport (RBS) Hello-Demand. In total, devices for around 6200 rooms are being procured throughout Munich. Cost: about 21.7 million euros. “The mobile devices complement ventilation, but do not replace it,” emphasizes spokeswoman Julia Mayer.
Elementary school on Herrnstrasse not yet equipped with air filter systems
Bénard and Binder are also aware of this and are therefore pushing for permanently installed devices that no longer have to be ventilated all the time. To this end, the RBS explains that in the medium term there are plans to build new – and, if possible, existing – rooms in schools and Daycare centers to be equipped with permanently installed “ventilation and air-conditioning systems” as standard. When: remains open. At the moment there is still one at the elementary school on Herrnstrasse not even the mobile devices.
The two mothers are particularly annoyed that everything takes so long. “We contacted the city before the summer holidays, nothing has happened since then.” There was not even a response. The situation on Herrnstrasse could soon get even worse: in the inner courtyard it says Demolition of the corresponding day care center the next construction site is already ahead. “Then we have” noise from both sides.”
Protection from noise
Wöhr und Bauer, the construction site’s patent developer, has now carried out noise measurements in coordination with the school. The results are expected shortly, then you can talk about further approaches, explains spokesman Fabian Häusler Hello-Demand. “We want to find an elegant way so that everyone is satisfied,” he emphasizes. In any case, the subject could keep the school busy for a while: the construction site should take about four years.
