Too good to be true, the web scam that’s all the rage
I am fake sites are becoming more and more frequent that they claim to sell designer clothing items at a price extremely low compared to the list value. In addition to appearing in search engines, they are often sponsored on Facebook through scam posts. They are shared by users in the throes of emotion and without their knowledge they carry traps.
This popular scam has emerged with the increase in the use of social media, as it can be cheap and easy to publish which to the inexperienced eye be legitimate, but once the money is sent, the company mysteriously disappears either he has no memory of your order or he could send a different product, as happened to an Italian boy from Sant’Angelo in Vado in the province of Pesaro and Urbino.
L., who prefers to remain anonymous, says: “I had bought an alleged Dolce & Gabbana jacket and a Hermès key ring for a total of only 60 euros complete with free shipping. The parcel arrived at home, but it only contained a chain that had nothing to do with the order and was not signed. It was useless to contact them again, because they were completely unavailable“.
Also M., from Fermignano, tells us about his experience. He had tried to purchase a Reebok hockey shoulder pad: “I found it via google on a site that sold sporting goods. I order it and the shipping times were long. When it arrives, I receive a small package with Chinese writing on it. Inside was a box that said ‘Bulgari’ and it contained a tarot version of a jewel of that brand “.
How to recognize fake clothing sites?
1) There is no VAT. Italian sites that sell in Italy are required by law to declare the IP number. In case they should declare it, it is easy to verify its authenticity. Just connect to the website of therevenue agency and check that the declared number corresponds to the company name which in this case is the name of the online store.
2) You can always put items of any quantity and all sizes in your shopping cart. Even those that the brand has never made.
3) Often the declared list price is not the real one, but it is always significantly lower.
4) The discounted price shown is incredibly low. So much that the manufacturer would lose out. A Prada suede jacket, for example, can never cost just 50 euros on any site that has serious intentions.
5) The number of the item of clothing which identifies the model it is always fictitious and it does not coincide with the real one which can instead be found on the official websites of the various fashion houses.
6) Advance payment is always required and never cash on delivery. The latter method would allow the contents of the package to be checked in front of the postman.
7) Returns are never allowed. The law allows, at least within the first 14 days, to exercise the right of return.
8) Often grammatical errors are found which are an indication of a malicious translation of criminals that he makes from abroad.
9) they are ephemeral. Consequentially you cannot find reviews online from people who have bought there. Perhaps you only find those of people who tell their misadventure on that site, but even in this case it is difficult: often people are ashamed to admit that they have been scammed and consequently do not expose themselves.
10) They don’t have social pages attached to the site, such as Instagram or Facebook. They don’t have a telephone And often they only have an e-mail that does not contain the name of the site and from which it is not really possible to receive assistance.
Victims of truffles online can report the incident to the police post. It is a good idea to report it even if only if you come into contact with a reality of that kind and no purchase has been concluded. This contributes to the improvement of the web and helps to preserve network users from possible tripping.
